The Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles voted 7-0 Monday against commuting
the death sentence of Women’s Death Row inmate Francis Newton, 40, who’s
scheduled to die by injection Wednesday for the murders of her husband and
two children 18 years ago.
The vote came hours after the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals
refused to halt
the execution.
Newton’s attorneys have appeals pending before the U.S. Supreme Court.
Newton would be only the third woman and the first black woman
executed in
Texas since executions resumed in 1982.
